Stalemate

On a bed with satin sheets
Under the sick hands of fate
We were losing ourselves
Locked in a stalemate
Holding onto nothing
Our brilliant strategies have failed
As it pulls into another harbour
Our ship has long since sailed
When you hold out your arms to me
I crawl into your soul
You grabbed my hand and placed it on your heart
And you made me whole
Now we sit in painful silence
Wishing there were something to be said
Heavy thoughts and silent screams
Chasing through my head
On a bed with satin sheets
You take back pieces of your heart
From underneath my fingernails
As we slide farther apart
Please ask what you need to ask
To try and understand
And do what you want to do to me
My one request is you hold my hand
I have broken us
from the whole piece we were becoming
into two people, standing alone
On opposite sides of chain link
Outside forces we couldn't control
had driven me into your arms
Now the darker corners of my heart
Are prying us apart
You look up from satin sheets to me
In your eyes, it's you who's sinned
Locked in stalemate, you sigh
I await my second wind
