Pulling the trigger

One more time

Just swinging her fists around

Yeah, the one you spent years

Trying to shut down

Screaming that she's tired of this

In another of her little

Hypocondriac fits

Or at least

That's how you want her to feel

Trying to kill off any chance that was real

Of her ever being who she wants to be

Of looking in the mirror

And liking what she sees

And you can't deny it

From the very start

You've been busting your ass

Trying to break her heart

Trying to keep her down

And below you all

And you're wondering why

She put a fist through the wall

Why she's screaming in her sleep

Why her anger runs so deep

And you're pumping her with questions

You should know the answers to

Like why she's getting drunk tonight

And why she's mad at you

You know, the one that's driving you crazy

Seventeen

But you're treating her like a baby

And you wonder why she's taking those walks

Or why sarcasm drips from her words when she talks

And you're looking at her

With her black hair dye

Spiked arm cuffs

Heavily lined eyes

And somehow it surprises you

When you find her on the floor

Holding tight to that razor blade

About to slit her wrists when you came through the door

But you never enrolled her in that dance class

Or sat with her at the piano

Or any of those other things she asked

Well, you can't make up for that now

Cause your baby girl's carving words in her arms

like "suicide", "die", and "depression"

And she prays at night to just drop dead

While you ask your stupid questions

"Why are you so sad, my dear?"

"Why are you so quiet?"

"Why are you failing in school, my dear?"

"Why are you always so tired?"

And you've got your friends feeling real bad for you

As you wipe a tear from your eye

Well, you couldn't be more wrong if you think

That you've got a right to cry

Is she looking for attention?

Is she hoping that you'll hear her?

When you walk into her room to find

She's got "ugly" in lipstick, across her mirror

Did you buy her that puppy when she was twelve

And told you she was lonely

Did you take her to the zoo?

Or walk beside the pony?

Were you there for her, you think?

When she needed you?

No, and you've got no idea

What you've put her through

So maybe you should back away

And let her have her moment

Blood flows from veins when you break the skin

And she does it cause she can control it

And maybe it wasen't part of your plan

Maybe it wasen't intended

But you put a hole inside that girl

And her pain is never ending

And everytime you start with her

It gets a little bigger

You know damn well you're pushing buttons

But do you realize you're pulling the trigger?
