Chapter Ten

I was kidding

"Goodmorning, Vienna."

She opened her eyes, felt a splitting pain in her head, and snapped them shut again.

"Zac, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Helping your sorry ass." he held out some asprin to her, "You need to take these."

She shook her head.

"Why not?"

"Not opening my eyes."

"Well, sit up, would you?" he sighed.

She groaned and pulled herself up, leaning against the headboard.

"I'm handing you the asprin." Zac stated.

She put out her hand and took them, popping them into her mouth. He handed her a glass of water next and she drank and swallowed.

"Oh God, what was I thinking?" she moaned.

"Huh.." he laughed, "Probably not much of anything. Yes, I imagine I could have heard the ocean through your ear last night."

She opened her eyes, slowly.

"Are you mad?" she asked.

"No." he answered, "I'm not allowed, cause Patrick would kick my ass. Besides, I've done my share of underaged boozing, it's no big thing."

"Eh.." she muttered, rubbing at her temples. Zac laughed.

"You're a pretty interesting drunk, you know." he told her, sitting on the side of the bed, "Do you still wanna get married? To paper? Still love paper? And what about that monkey?"

"You're confusing me." she moaned, holding her head.

"Yeah, that's payback."

She sighed. "What time is it?"

"Ten am." he told her.

"I'm gonna go back to sleep for a few hours." she said, laying back down.

"Okay." he climbed over her and layed down on her side, "I'll go with you."

```````````````
Zac woke up a few hours later to the sounds of someone moving around downstairs. He glanced around Vienna's room to find she wasen't there and the door was open.
The distinct noise of something heavy hitting the floor and her cursing floated through it as he got up and left in search of her.
As he came down the stairs, she met him at the bottom and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Looks like you're feeling better." he commented, once she let go.
"Yeah, you learn how to recover quickly somewhere around the twentieth time you get drunk on a school night." she took his hands. "I bought some muffins, come have late breakfast with me."
He followed her into the kitchen and she opened a package of chocolate chip muffins and dropped them on the table.
"I also got the Ultimate crumb cake." she sighed, "I love this stuff." she threw that on the table too and grabbed a knife, "Lets pig out and get really fat."
"Speaking of which..." Zac laughed, "How much do you weigh, you're really heavy."
"Thank you." she gave him a look, "One hundred flat, actually."
"Well, you deffinately shouldn't have any of this then." he joked, taking the crumb cake away.
"You're right." she threw down the knife, "I'm fat."
He rolled his eyes.
"Why do girls always think they're fat?"
"You just told me I was!" she accused.
"I was kidding!" he answered, in exasperation, "You're perfect! God, go look in a mirror!"
"Perfect, huh?" she questioned, "We both know I'm way too skinny...are you saying you're only into really skinny chicks?"
"Wha-?"
He was saved having to answer by the phone ringing.
"Hello?" she answered, glaring at him..
"Via?" came Isaac's voice.
"Hey, Ike."
"Hey, hun. Listen, is Zac there?"
"Yeah." she answered, "Wanna talk to...him?"
"No." Isaac laughed, "We just didn't know where he went, wanted to know if he'd been kidnapped so we'd have time to find a new drummer. What are you guys up to?"
"He just called me fat."
He could hear Zac yell "I did not!" in the backround.
"Want me to kick his ass?" Ike asked.
"Yes."
"Ohh.." he laughed, "What a great girlfriend you are."
"Kick his ass, Ike, kick his ass!"
"Alright..." Isaac chuckled, "Just send him back here when you're done with him and I'll kick his ass."
"Alright." she said, "I'll go prekick his ass for you, talk to you later."
"Sounds good." Isaac said, "Stop by some time and hang out, I never see you anymore!"
They said their goodbyes and hung up.
Just as Vienna put down the phone, Zac came up behind her, picked up her chair, and shook it.
"I was kidding!!!!"
"Put me down!" Vienna screamed.
"Only if you admit you know I was kidding."
"Only if you promise you really were kidding."
"Vienna!" he exclaimed, "The very fact that I'm DOING THIS RIGHT NOW should prove I was kidding!"
"Alright, alright.." she laughed.
"Thank you!" he sighed, putting her down. As soon as the hair hit the ground she jumped up, lunged at him, and knocked him onto the floor.
He grabbed her side and a huge tickling match ensued.
They were so wrapped up in the screaming, laughing, and rolling around on the floor that neither of them noticed the front door open and someone walk in.
"Maybe I should come back later?" came Ron's voice.
Vienna rolled off Zac, to the floor beside him, laughing.
"Hey, Uncle Ron." she sighed.
He half-smiled.
"Hey, Unckie." Zac laughed.
Ron shook his head, walking into the kitchen.
"Hey!" Vienna hopped up and followed him, "It's two pm! Where'd you pass out?"
He groaned, rolling his neck around, then shot back.
"Who'd you pass out with?"
"Are you calling me a whore?"
"I might be."
She jumped on his back and he ignored her and went on rummaging in the refridgerator.
Zac laughed and threw his head back, crashing it into the floor.
"Hey, your man's giving himself a concussion over there, kid." Ron told Vienna, "Go bother him for a while."
Vienna dropped to the ground and padded over to Zac.
"Zaaaaccccc!!!!"
"Whaaaatttt?"
"Do you have a concussion?" she asked, giving him puppy dog eyes.
"No."
"Why'd you do that, stupid?" she asked.
'I don't know." he shrugged.
She grabbed his hand, pulling on it so he'd get up.
"Lets go to your house." she suggested, "It's better there."
"Okay." he agreed, following her to the door.
"I'm going on a drug run, Ron, I'll see you later." she called to her uncle.
"Be home by Thursday." he replied.
She shut the door and shot across the lawn to the Hanson house.
They walked in to Isaac lounging about the living room, talking with a few friends.
Vienna ran over to the couch, jumping into Isaac's lap.
"Hey, babe." he laughed, "I haven't seen you like this before...you're cute when you're happy."
He looked at Zac, who shrugged.
"I think she might still be buzzed..anyway, stop hitting on my girlfriend."
Ike grinned evilly.
"You're cute when you're jealous, Zac." he batted his eyes.
Vienna giggled.
"Aww, com'ere, Zac." she stretched out her arms and he came over to her, sitting down on top of her.
"Excuse me." Isaac said, "But I am not your davenport."
At that, Isaac's friend came over and sat on Zac, adding to the pile.
"Nice to meet you, by the way." he laughed to him, "I'm James."
James' girlfriend jumped into his lap too, as the guys shook hands.
"Alright!" Isaac groaned, "I can't breathe.."
They all whigned, but relieved him as they got up one by one, and Zac and Vienna retreated to his bedroom.
Vienna sat down at his desk and pulled the sketchbook that was laying there to her, and opened it.
She laughed.
"These are funny, man." she flipped through the pages, "I wish I could show my mom this...she woulda loved these."
He looked at her and tilted his head.
"Lem'me sketch you."
"Alright!" she laughed.
He grabbed the sketchbook and a drawing pencil and sat down on the floor, flipping through to the next clean page.
Then he started, his hand flying back and forth across the paper, eyes darting up back and forth between her face and his drawing.
"Are you done yet?" she asked, after a good ten minutes of sitting there.
"No. You know you have a gorgeous mouth?" he asid, without looking up.
"Oh yeah, my greatest asset." she rolled her eyes.
"Nah." he answered, "You've got some amazing eyes too."
"Yeah, you too, shut up. You're gonna make me ill." she muttered.
"huh.." he laughed, locking his eyes on her's, "I wanna kiss you." he looked back to the sketch, "But you're not allowed to move."
There was a knock on the door.
"Name and purpose!" Zac shouted.
"It's Natalie." answered the voice, through the door.
"Enter!" she opened the door and came in.
"Have you been assigned to spot check us?" Zac asked, "You're two minutes too late, we just put our clothes back on."
"Oh, and I missed it?" she pretended to be disappointed, "Damn...I actually wanted to meet Vienna."
Vienna smiled and waved at her.
"Stop moving!" Zac commanded.
She flipped him off before snapping back into place.
Natalie laughed.
"I've been hearing quite a bit about you."
Vienna shot a look at her, without moving her head.
"Did Zac tell you I was fat?"
"BLLAAAHHHHH!" he yelled, chucking his pencil at her. She ducked to avoid it. "I'm done." he huffed.
"At last!" she exclaimed, leaping up.
"Well, since you're done with her." Natalie put in, "May I borrow her for ice cream and girl talk?
"If you promise to return her without having put silly things in her head."
"You have my word." Natalie swore, signaling for Vienna to follow her out of the room.
~~~~~~~~~~

"So, how are you and Zac getting along?" Natalie asked, once she and Vienna had settled at the kitchen table with their ice cream.

Vienna smiled and her eyes lit up.

"Oh, he's so sweet, and good, and pure." she mused, "Just everything wonderful."

"Oh, I know." Natalie laughed, "And, you know, perverted, and cocky, and moronic. Just everything male."

Vienna gave her a look.

"I'm just kidding." Natalie giggled, "It's those same things that drew me to Taylor."

The younger girl nodded.

"They're all so beautiful."

"Oh, it's a fabulous family." Natalie agreed, "And overwhelming if you're not used to big families."

Vienna breathed a laugh, her smile widening. Natalie took her in for a minute.

"Man, Diana would have loved you." she told her.

Vienna smiled, sadly.

"I really do wish I could have known her."

"Oh, you do know her." Natalie assured her, "She's so much in all of them."

That last line there was like the corny fairy kicking me in the head....
